The first few days of August marked a busy few days for the club in both confined and open events. On Thursday 2nd, 15 club members took part in the annual Turnberry Trophy handicapped event, a 28 mile individual time trial from Ayr to Turnberry, returning via Kirkoswald and the Covenanters road. This event also doubles as a league event using non-handicapped times. The race started in reasonable conditions but by the end the rain had started to affect conditions which saw club Captain Bobby McGhee having a close up encounter with some shrubbery on the final bend. Bad luck also bestowed itself on Harry Brawley who punctured early on and Michael Curran who was also forced to abandon with rear derailleur issues. Once all riders had crossed the line the club mathematicians got to work on the handicapped times. With bated breath and chocolate brownies supplied by Aileen Fisher the riders waited to hear their fate. he event was won by John Gemmell with a handicapped time of 1:17:27 following a terrific ride with Bobby McGhee 2nd despite his mishap and Calum MacDonald 3rd. For the club league, Calum was overall fastest with a 1:10:38 with Scott Knox 2nd. Well done to all riders and a special mention to Charlotte Robb competing in her first club event with an excellent ride.
On Sunday 5th August seven riders competed in the Westferry 25mile time trial. Four riders broke the infamous hour barrier with Calum MacDonald fastest and 13th overall with a time of 56 minutes dead. . There were also PB's for Harry Brawley, John Gemmell and Archie Arthur. Well done all.
